where am i? . . . welcome to the Trekkie Zone™, which i suppose is my first shrine! i really, really, Really love star trek. i think it is probably top 3 franchises ever for me, and i love stuff, so that says a lot. from the old shows and movies to the ones that are still releasing episodes now, i genuinely adore star trek and everything it stands for.
my first exposure was to sir patrick stewart playing the incredible role of jean luc picard in "star trek: the next generation" when i was just a child. i was not the world's biggest fan of it, if i'm being honest. i first saw episode 25 of season five titled "the inner light", and was partly inspired by the beatles song of the same name. picard is struck by an energy beam from an alien probe and knocked unconscious. for the crew on board, he is knocked out for about 25 minutes, but for picard? the probe makes him experience 40 years of a loving life as a humanoid scientist on a different planet.
since seeing it at age six bored out of my mind, i have done a little bit of growing up since then, and now along with everyone else consider it to be one of the greatest episodes of all time. after picard wakes, the probe is found to contain a flute (there is a very beautiful and prominent flute melody throughout the episode), which he keeps as a memory of his "other life". this episode is so beloved that the melody has since been re-arranged for a full orchestra which is .. the coolest thing ever imo!
all this to say, i have such a wonderful appreciation for star trek and even though i am a fake trekkie (haven't seen the original series but i'm WORKIN ON IT !!! get off my back), the love i have for the universe gene roddenberry created is very, very real.
what's next . . . who knows! i'll update this every now and then, especially as i do a FULL FRANCHISE REWATCH !!! yes, you heard me right! i am going to rewatch ALL of star trek .... well almost all of it. i will probably Not watch star trek prodigy because it's rated TV-Y7, nor will i probably watch star trek lower decks because i think it will be really annoying and i don't like the animation style. but i'm judging both of them on appearance, and so much of star trek is about letting all of that go. so perhaps, in the spirit of the franchise itself i will give them a try! i'm trying to decide if i should do it in release order, or in chronological order (which would be a cluster fuck of a thing to do). but whatever i do end up doing, you'll be the first to hear about it! :)
